Toronto Family Lawyer Talks About Family Mediation VS Court
http://www.toyoursuccess.tv/ In this episode of "To Your Success TV", Family Lawyer and Certified specialist (Family Law) John Schuman discusses “Family Mediation- Step By Step” with host Ken Wells. Individuals or parents going through a difficult time, the last thing they want is to go through a messy and often stressful court procedure. Nobody enjoys going to court. More and more people are choosing Family Mediation over the traditional court process. However there are many people that are not aware of this option. Let start with What is Family Mediation? Rather than going to, or continuing in, family court, separated couple or parents agree to meet with a specially trained, objective, third party, usually a lawyer, social worker or psychologist who works in the family law fields. The purpose of the meetings is to resolve whatever family law issues there may be, instead of using court. It is an entirely voluntary process, unlike court, both sides have to agree to go, and agree to the mediator – which is important because they can pick someone who agrees with their values, where you can’t pick your judge in court. John also answers these questions. Is mediation binding? Do you still need a lawyer if you’re not going to court? Does a lawyer come to the mediation? What is the first step?
