"The Highwayman" — Phil Ochs live in Germany (1968)
This track is from a concert by Phil Ochs at the Burg-Waldeck Music Festival in Dorweiler, then West Germany, from June 12th-17th, 1968. The festival was one that many German radicals, socialists, and communists attended and performed at, such as Hannes Wader and others, and Phil was one of two Americans to sing. There were apparently many issues with the crowd deeming the performers not radical enough and then storming the stage to wave Vietcong flags and shout. The exact order of the songs listed is not known, so I have uploaded them in the order they were uploaded. There were a number of issues with the recordings, which were supposedly on the master tapes as well. Overall, however, the quality is quite good. The original tapes were destroyed in a fire in 1977 at the facility they were stored in. The image used for this video is a still from a film recording of Phil singing at this festival. The video can be found on YouTube. I am uploading this and the other recordings from this festival from this link: https://archive.org/details/phil_ochs... More information can be found here: https://albumsthatshouldexist.blogspo... I do not own the rights to this song, this recording, or this image.
