MANILA (UPDATE) — Actress Angel Locsin called out Senator Robin Padilla in a social media post on Thursday. “Tama na, Kuya. Gising na. Hindi pa huli ang lahat,” the actress said. Locsin's remarks came after Padilla declared that he is a communist while questioning the testimony of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)-Bangsamoro Regional Director Jeremy Lotoc during the fifth day of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial. “Sa statement mo na to, kahit papaano, natuwa akong makita ulit 'yung dating Robin Padilla na nakilala ko. At least, honest ka ngayon, Kuya,” she said. “Ang tanong ko lang, nasaan ka nung panahong nire-red-tag ako kahit alam mong hindi totoo? Actually, kasama mo pa nga at kachikahan 'yung mga nangre-red-tag. Naghugas-kamay at pumikit sa katotohanan.” Locsin pointed out that Padilla topped the 2022 senatorial elections despite being a Muslim, saying this appeared to contradict his support for Apollo Quiboloy, who is currently detained. “Pero bakit parang mas ipinaglalaban mo pa si Quiboloy? Naniniwala ka ba talaga na siya ang 'appointed son of God'?” she added. She also took issue with Padilla's position on China, ending her statement with an appeal to remember whom public officials ultimately serve. “Kahit paano, alam kong halos pareho tayong landas na dinaanan. Galing sa hirap, nagtrabaho ng maaga, tinangkilik at nakapagpasaya ng mga tao. Ang utang na loob natin ay sa ating Diyos at sa lahat ng Pilipino — hindi lamang sa isang tao.” In a statement, Padilla clarified his remarks on communism, saying he supports the concept that promotes unity and the equitable distribution of wealth, rather than a form that advocates armed struggle. "Ang aking paninindigan ay laban sa dahas at armadong pakikibaka. Ang aking tinutukoy ay ang diwa ng pagkakapatiran, malasakit sa kapwa, at panlipunang katarungan," Padilla said.
