They were originally a part of the Gurubashi Empire and, indeed, served as part of their vanguard in the battles against the ancient aqir, and even fought with the Qiraji later on. The Great Sundering split the empire in two, and the trolls of Zul'Farrak eventually adapted to the conditions of their new homeland and became sand trolls. #2: The sand trolls employ some of the darkest forms of magic seen by trollkind in order to survive in the harsh environment of Tanaris. Specifically, they use a combination of blood magic and necromancy even on their own tribe, and, as such, have been described to use the darkest form of voodoo and of mojo. Perhaps as a result, the troll loa of the dead, Bwonsamdi, does not protect the Sandfury trolls, whose spirits are, often, left to the whims of their dark witch doctors. Interestingly enough, the Farraki trolls, as the Sandfury renamed themselves, seem to have abandoned many of these dark practices while fighting for the Zandalari in Pandaria, resorting, instead, to manipulating sand as a weapon, perhaps in a form of geomancy. #3: It is well known that the Sandfury trolls revere and worship Gahz'rilla, a gigantic hydra, even shaping much of their architecture and ornamentation after it. What Gahz'rilla is, exactly, is a matter of debate, however. It has been stated that it is a demigod, thus raising the possibility that it is a Wild God, a Loa, perhaps a weaker one at that, since it is known that the sand trolls do worship at least some of the Gurubashi loa. There is also the possibility that it is an ancient minion of the Old Gods, which seems to be confirmed by Cho'gall during the Elemental Unrest. Or, alternatively, it could be both, namely a Loa serving the Old Gods. It's also possible that it is not intelligent or sentient, as the sand trolls are known to have fought with the Silithid and the Qiraji in the past, although, on the other hand, the armies of the Old Gods do tend to fight each other.
