FDNY Promotion Ceremony for fire officers

The FDNY promoted members of fire operations on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, during a ceremony at Queens College. Members were promoted to the following ranks: Deputy Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, Battalion Chief, Captain and Lieutenant. The newly promoted members will be assigned to units throughout New York City. Also at the promotion ceremony, the FDNY announced two longtime members would soon be retiring. Lieutenant Joseph LaPointe, who has led the Department's Ceremonial Unit for more than two decades, will retire after more than 40 years of service. Assistant Chief Joseph Ferrante, who serves as the Queens Borough Commander, will also soon retire after more than four decades on the job.
