Behind the Curtain with Gio Battaglia: Danielle Ponder, New RPO President

Rochester-raised singer Danielle Ponder joins News 8 to talk about her powerful new chapter — signing with Dead Oceans in partnership with Phoebe Bridgers, releasing her new single “Power,” and returning home to debut the song live at the Rochester Juneteenth Festival. Ponder says “Power” was written as a love letter to her 17-year-old self, inspired by her first trip to Dakar, Senegal. More than 20 years later, she returned there to film the music video, creating what she calls a celebration of Blackness, ancestry and resilience. Plus, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra has named Tonya McBride Robles as its next president and CEO. McBride Robles, a seasoned performing arts executive, brings more than two decades of experience and most recently served as vice president of expanded education at the New England Conservatory in Boston.
