Javier Acosta's story has shocked all of Colombia after his decision to undergo euthanasia became known. The 36-year-old from Bogotá, a loyal Millonarios supporter, suffered an accident several years ago that left him confined to a wheelchair. Adding to his difficult situation was a severe bacterial infection and then the devastating diagnosis of blood cancer. As a result of the accident, doctors told the Millonarios fan that he would be permanently disabled and would never regain the use of his legs. From then on, his life took an unexpected turn. Despite the doctor's prognosis, Javier eventually managed to crawl and walk on his knees, and even stand up. After nine months, he took his first step and thought his life was going to improve. However, five years ago, the fan faced another difficult challenge when he contracted a bacterial infection in a swimming pool in Melgar.
