Walk Around Mauritius – Episode 3 | Poste Lafayette → Belle Mare

Walk Around Mauritius – Episode 3 Poste Lafayette → Belle Mare ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📍 27 km | ⏱ 8 hours 30 minutes | 🧭 Eastern Coastline ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Nobody said this would be easy. Day 3 was the hardest day yet. Leaving Poste Lafayette at 7:00am, we pushed south along the eastern coastline through 27 kilometres of open beach walking in full sun, arriving at Belle Mare at 3:30pm. Eight and a half hours on our feet. Sand underfoot the whole way. The heat was relentless. But the physical exhaustion wasn't the hardest part. The beaches here are stunning in the way that only Mauritius can be — turquoise water, white sand, the kind of coastline that ends up on screensavers. And they were covered in rubbish. Not a little. A lot. Plastic, waste, debris — stretching along stretches of coastline that should be protected and celebrated. It was genuinely heartbreaking to walk through. The Mauritian government needs to do more. Littering is a choice, and right now there are not enough consequences for making the wrong one. These beaches belong to everyone — and they deserve better. And then there are the dogs. There are no words, really. You see them and you feel it in your chest. Strays everywhere — hungry, sick, scared, surviving. This is exactly why we're walking. Not for a statistic. For the animals we passed today that nobody is coming for unless people like you make it possible. We ended Day 3 sleeping on the public beach at Belle Mare — no hotel, no comforts. The local police came to check on us through the night. Apparently it isn't considered safe to camp there. We were grateful for their kindness. It also put things in perspective: we're out here for one night by choice. The strays we walked past today don't get to choose. 27 kilometres. Eastern coast behind us. Still going. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ✨ EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🌅 Early 7am start from Poste Lafayette ☀️ 27 km of open beach walking in relentless heat 🗿 The SAS 1987 crash memorial — remembering the 159 lives lost 🚯 The shocking state of litter on some of Mauritius's most beautiful beaches 🐕 The heartbreaking reality of stray dogs along the eastern coast 🏕️ Sleeping on Belle Mare public beach — with the local police keeping watch ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🐾 WHY WE'RE WALKING ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ We're Mandy Martin and Belinda Du Preez — two South African women, both proudly over 50, who've made Mauritius home. We're walking the entire 274.6 km coastline of Mauritius to raise funds for local animal welfare NGOs battling a silent crisis: widespread stray animal suffering, overcrowded shelters, and almost zero government support. Every donation — no matter the size — goes directly toward veterinary care, sterilisation projects, rescues, and daily essentials for the animals who need it most. We're also walking for women's health. Because Belinda knows firsthand, as a cancer survivor, that strength has nothing to do with age. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 💛 SUPPORT THE CAUSE ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 💰 Donate here: https://gogetfunding.com/walk-around-mauri... 📘 Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61... ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 👣 ABOUT US ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🎒 Mandy Martin — Outdoor adventurer, marathon runner & founder of Moo Bags, locally handmade eco-friendly bags. → https://moobags.mu/ 🌿 Belinda Du Preez — Cancer survivor, holistic health consultant & Mauritius's highest-rated reflexologist. → https://footlove.mu/ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📺 FULL ROUTE – 274.6 KM OVER 11 DAYS ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Day 01 – Beach House → Melville Public Beach (34.52 km) ✅ Day 02 – Melville Public Beach → Roches Noires (25 km) ✅ Day 03 – Poste Lafayette → Belle Mare (27 km) ✅ Day 04 – Belle Mare → Trou d'Eau Douce (23.14 km) Day 05 – Trou d'Eau Douce → Mahebourg (23.42 km) Day 06 – Mahebourg → Surinam (27.89 km) Day 07 – Surinam → Bel Ombre (25.50 km) Day 08 – Bel Ombre → La Gaulette (29.02 km) Day 09 – La Gaulette → Flic-en-Flac (24.16 km) Day 10 – Flic-en-Flac → Port Louis (27.56 km) Day 11 – Port Louis → Beach House North (32.08 km) 🔔 Subscribe and follow the playlist — new episodes drop as we walk! ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ #WalkAroundMauritius #MauritiusAnimalWelfare #BelleMare #PosteLafayette #EasternCoastline #StrayDogsMauritius #AnimalRescueMauritius #CommunitySterilizationCampaign #CharityWalkMauritius #WalkingForACause #MauritiusBeaches #MauritiusCoastline #MauritiusWalkingTour #MauritiusTravelVlog #MauritiusEnvironment #ProtectOurBeaches #WomenOver50 #WomensHealth #MauritiusDogs #SAS1987
