In perfect (no wind or current) conditions, Panope is backed into a slip. At slow astern speeds, this vessel cannot be steered with rudder alone. Instead, astern "steerage" is accomplished by applying short bursts of AHEAD power against the rudder that is positioned hard-over in the OPPOSITE direction of the desired turn.
