He received lessons in the Senia Maihar style from his father Parthapratim Chatterjee. Sitar maestro Pandit Nikhil Banerjee’s music continues to act as a great source of inspiration for him. Purbayan Chatterjee is also an accomplished vocalist. He is one of the few from the Indian classical music fraternity, who have successfully fused the traditional form of music, with jazz.
