Cantaloop - Hold Back The River - Live @resonanzraum, Hamburg (June 2017)

This version of James Bay's "Hold back the river" (arranged by Christoph Gerl) was recorded on June 17th, 2017. It was a very special occasion: The release concert of Cantaloop's new CD "Kaleidoscope Songs" at "resonanzraum" in Hamburg's famous St. Pauli district. "Kaleidoscope Songs" is Cantaloop's first CD production. Produced in 2017, it features 12 tracks with a cappella versions of popular songs by Adele, Chaka Khan, Michael Jackson, Peter Gabriel, Sting and other song "jewels" by Sara Bareilles, Tina Dico, Kimbra, Jarle Bernhoft and Silje Nergaard. This spectacular concert @resonanzraum was unique in that the setting (and seating) resembled the way the CD was recorded. CD producer Andrew Levine used the Blumlein stereo system, a recording technique where microphones are placed in the middle of the choir. Songs are recorded in one setting with all voices simultaneously. This created a warm, natural, authentic sound, almost resembling a live recording. Same goes for this CD release concert: Like the Blumlein microphones in the recording studio, the audience was placed in the middle of the choir, surrounding them with sound from virtually every direction. This created a unique listening experience, almost like a "sound bath." Of course, standing far apart in a big circle and a very dark room was quite the challenge for the Cantaloop singers. But the choir was up to the task and provided the audience a breathtaking evening and a very special concert experience. It was a magical night! What an intensely close relationship with the audience, what an incredible sound sensation. 100% live music! For sure, this won't be the last time Cantaloop will perform in this surround sound setup.
