WOW! This captures Fats and his Band in top-notch form! Dutch fans are the most fanatic and it shows... 1980. What a year for Fats. At 52 he's more popular than ever. The year before he was back at the studio and releases one of his best studio albums "Sleeping On The Job"(USA: "1980"). But is wasn't all that "rosy" as we shall see. A short overview from the year 1980 'till this performance: January 30: The year starts disasterous for all fans of New orleans related music: Professor Longhair (Roy Byrd) dies; early April: Charles Levy, Fats' attorney dies at the age of 64. He was Fats attorney for almost thirty years. Everyone, including Rosemary, knew he was screwing Fats out of money. Fats never seen it until recently; April 26: Fats plays at Jazz & Heritage Festival; May 1980: A new record is released: "If I Get Rich/My Old Time Used To Be". June 5: Another blow...Robert "Buddy" Hagans dies of prostate cancer. Hagans retired after a terrible accident late '60's. He played with Fats from the early beginnings; June 30; Fats records "Whiskey Heaven", for the upcoming soundtrack to "Any Which Way You Can" starring Clint Eastwood (must see!). The song will be Fats last charting record (Billboard Country Charts, reaching #51); July 4: Fats starts a three week European tour. He is the highest paid act in Europe. July 11: Fats plays at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Along with Fats we see (from l to r): Antoine "Fats" Domino†(v/p) Joseph "Smokey" Johnson†(d) David Douglas(g) Lee Allen†(ts) Teddy Royal(g) Frederick Kemp†(ts) Herbert Hardesty†(ts) Thomas "Mack" Johnson(tp) Walter Kimball†(ts) Carlton McWilliams(b) Roger Lewis(bs) Time Tracklisting/solo) 00;00 Opening [Smokey Johnson/Walter Kimble/Fred Kemp/Thomas Mack Johnson/] 06;00 Announcement [Lee Allen] 07;15 I'm Walkin' [Lee Allen] 09;49 Blue Monday [Roger Lewis] 12;05 Jambalya(On The Bayou) [Lee Allen] 17;58 I'm In Love Again [Lee Allen] 19;40 Honey Chile [Lee Allen] 21;06 I'm Ready 23;00 I Want To Walk You Home 25;00 I'm Gonna Be A Wheel Someday [Fred Kemp] 27;15 Blueberry Hill 29;40 Shake, Rattle And Roll [Roger Lewis/"Carlton McWilliams/Teddy Royal] 36;00 What A Price 37;35 Let The Four Winds Blow [Herb Hardesty] 42;02 When The Saints Go Marching [band walks through the crowd.../Thomas Johnson] 51;15 Sentimental Journey [Teddy Royal] 56;15 Encore 1: My Girl Josephine [ 59;00 Encore 2: Red Sails In The Sunset/Swanee River Boogie WASN'T THIS GREAT OR WHAT.................
