The Creatures Of Prometheus (Ballet Music) - Beethoven - Menuhin - Menuhin Festival Orchestra

Beethoven's only ballet premiered at the Burgtheater in 1801. It was based on the classical legend of Prometheus, who brought two statues to life with fire stolen from heaven, and taught them the arts. Of special note is No. 16, the Finale, which shares its theme with the seventh of the Twelve Contredanses, WoO 14. It rises to greater prominence with Beethoven's 15 Variations and Fugue for piano, Op. 35, and in the finale of his epochal Symphony No. 3 in E flat major, "Eroica," Op. 55. (Information from album notes, AllMusic.com, and IMSLP.org) Omitted on this album are No. 4 (Maestoso -- Andante), No. 5 (Adagio -- Andante quasi Allegretto), No. 13 (Terzettino - Grotteschi. Allegro). Yehudi Menuhin conducts The Menuhin Festival Orchestra. Straight from the 1970 vinyl. I own nothing here.
