With Paulo Melim from Marni yet to take the reins, Chloé’s Spring 2007 collection remained in a holding pattern, carefully preserving the brand’s best-sellers like delicate blouses, short Empire dresses, and signature shoes and bags. Inspired by Gloria Vanderbilt, the collection featured subtle nods through log-cabin patchworks and a muted seventies palette of ochre, brown, and purple. The silhouette stayed faithful to the Phoebe Philo template, with no new directions or surprises. Ultimately, the collection underscored the gap between truly imaginative design and simply maintaining a line—leaving Chloé vulnerable to more spirited, lower-priced competitors like Marc by Marc Jacobs.
