Alcohol Cat Food Stove - DIY Backpacking Stove

In this video I show you how to build an ultralight alcohol backpacking stove with a cat food can. I then go ahead and do a burn test to see how it performs. These are sometimes called a "Fancy Feast Stove" because it uses that type of can. This is one of the lightest alcohol stove options out there for backpackers and can make a great addition to your kit. There are a million-and-one alcohol stoves out there, so I would encourage you to read up on them. This stove is not my design. The concept for this stove has been around for a long time, and there are probably some even better videos on YouTube about how to make these. Check them out! I was originally turned on to it when I interviewed a North Country Trail through-hiker in the summer of 2013. He used this very stove for the 4,000+mile trek. It is super lightweight, costs only $.60 to make, and can be made in about 10-15 minutes or less with a few tools. In this video I used a dremel, but a lot of people make them with a simple paper hole punch. The only thing I would caution you about is the fact that these stoves are not very durable. They can easy be broken if you leave them around and accidentally step on them.
