Most Hindu texts discuss yoga as a practice to control the senses and ultimately, the mind. The most famous is the Bhagavad Gita, in which Krishna speaks of four types of yoga – bhakti, or devotion; jnana, or knowledge; karma, or action; and dhyana, or concentration — as paths to achieve moksha (defined as the freedom from the eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth), the ultimate goal according to Hindu understanding.” Yoga means union, and is written about in the Bhagavad Gita, a scripture of Hinduism. Pantajali, who wrote the Yoga Sutras, says that the goal of yoga is to achieve samadhi, where it is claimed that you connect with God/The Divine. Yoga philosophy claims to be a means of connecting with God. Yoga has a patron god, called Shiva. He is a Hindu god and he is who yogis devote their practice to. Yoga is literally a form of prayer. And it’s not to Jesus — even if you want it to be. The asanas, otherwise called yoga postures, were invented so people can flow through and sit in meditation for hours, focusing on Shiva amongst the 33+ million other gods of the Hindu religion — the practice is curated to pay homage to, and connect with, these specific deities in order to yoke spiritual union to the divinity of god(s) that will thus align the practitioner their highest, most divine self and set them free of karma. They are not simply exercises. To claim so is to misunderstand yoga. Even if you have innocent intentions, when practicing yoga, you cannot just discredit what it intrinsically is simply, because of what you want it to be. Christians definitely should not be practicing yoga… It is a practice that opens you up to demons. And if you feel a resistance to this, that means it’s working… But Jesus is faithful to deliver you. Give up this demonic idol and be set free in His name!
