I Changed My Approach to Painting... Was it Worth It?

I'm taking much more care with my approach to painting now, I don't want to just replicate a photograph I want to create something unique and in the moment. My way of doing that doesn't completely remove references but it does allow me to feel more present in the creation of the final painting.
