Греки нового города. Античность Неаполя и пригородов. Александр Бутягин
A visit to modern Naples will reveal the true heart of southern Italy. Many tourists are terrified of this city, with its dirty and cramped historic center, where they must constantly dodge scooters and be wary of pickpockets. However, if you fall in love with this city, it will sparkle like a true treasure. Its labyrinth of streets conceal churches and museums with stunning paintings, sculptures, and frescoes. But if you look even more closely, you can discern the contours of the ancient Greek city, over which modern Naples sprawls, retaining its Greek name. We will attempt to discern in the modern city what remains of the ancient Greeks and Romans, something often overlooked by tourists rushing to see the famous Pompeii. Surrounding the lines of the ancient walls are the remains of the enormous villas of the wealthiest residents, many of which are partially submerged beneath the sea. We will journey beneath the earth and sea, following in the footsteps of the ancient inhabitants of Naples. Lecturer: Alexander Butyagin, archaeologist, head of the Northern Black Sea Region's Classical Archaeology Sector and leader of the Stabian and Myrmekion Archaeological Expedition at the State Hermitage Museum, and assistant professor at the Department of Archaeology at St. Petersburg State University. We would like to thank the Zanuda project and the Bucharest bar for organizing the lecture and for their collaboration.
