Artificial Intelligence and Big Data have profoundly transformed how we conduct economic analysis, an evolution that is accelerating even further with the emergence of large language models (LLMs). Thanks to the use of high-frequency indicators, anonymized consumption and economic activity data, predictive models, and advanced data analysis techniques, it is possible to analyze the economy and geopolitics virtually in real time and at an unprecedented level of detail. These capabilities allow for the development of highly granular regional analyses and the transformation of large volumes of information into useful, accessible, and actionable economic knowledge. As a result, economic analysis has become more agile, anticipatory, and geared toward evidence-based decision-making. Tomasa Rodrigo is the lead economist in the Big Data unit at BBVA Research, which applies data science to economic, social, and geopolitical analysis. She has extensive experience working with cloud infrastructures, large volumes of economic, financial, and social data, and, more recently, with large language models. She holds a degree in Economics from the University of Granada (Summa Cum Laude), where she worked as a research assistant for several years. She earned a Master's degree in Economic Analysis from Carlos III University of Madrid and taught Econometrics. She also completed a Master's in Data Science offered by IBM, along with numerous courses in data science, machine learning, and LLM. She has been an associate professor at Carlos III University for the past nine years.
