So this morning I received some really bad news. My dad's step-father is in hospital in a coma after he overdosed. It's not something I want to go into, but this video was almost finished and I felt like there was a message in it. My step-granda has always seemed like such a happy man, and the last time I saw him was at my 18th birthday party, when he gave me a hug and three bottles of champagne. He's been there for as long as I can remember, and he's been happy and fun and goofy and outgoing and loving. This video doesn't tie in to that very much, but it does show the messy, overwhelming presence of mental illness, even if it's behind closed doors. It may look like someone has a great life, and hey, maybe they do, but that doesn't mean they aren't struggling, or that they don't need any support. Sometimes everything builds up and it feels like you can't go on. I've been there. At my lowest point, I wrote goodbye letters to everyone I care about, and that was the only thing which brought me back, the fact that I knew I had all these people who I loved and who loved me. It breaks my heart that there are so many people out there who don't have those people in their lives. It hurts me that there are people who feel so utterly hopeless that all they can think to do is take their own lives. And if they're lucky, someone takes notice, and someone helps them. Things can get better and I wish I could express that more than I am. Thanks for watching, and please keep my step-granda in your thoughts.
