Its planning, control, and administration are the responsibility of the decentralized public agency Metrobús. It has seven lines, each assigned a number and a distinctive color. It has a total length of 125 kilometers and 283 stations. All stations are located within Mexico City. [citation needed] In 2007, it received the World Leadership Award, a prize awarded by the non-profit organization World Leadership Forum, based in London, England, to the best projects in the areas of civil engineering and architecture, communications, urban planning, science and technology, and transportation. The first line was inaugurated on June 19, 2005, by the then-head of government, Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The operation of the buses is assigned to 17 transportation companies. The Metrobús agency assigns the lines where the companies will provide service according to previously established agreements and system saturation. Thus, a single company can operate on more than one line.
