The Christian re-conquest of Spain culminated in the 15th century with the recapture of Granada. Ever since then, the vestiges of al-Andalus were stamped out by Catholic monarchs who wanted to imprint a Christian identity on the nation. But reminders of the glory of al-Andalus still abound; perhaps nowhere more strongly than through its architectural legacy. The Muslim rulers in Spain commissioned the construction of countless brilliant monuments. Many consider the most remarkable of these monuments to be the palace fortress the Alhambra, which sits gloriously atop the hills of Granada.
