Solo Moto camping trip to Death Valley & Alabama Hills on a Harley Davidson Sportster (Full video)
To celebrate my 51st birthday I decided to hit the road and Moto camping for a couple of nights. Join me!!!... (00:00:00) Day 1 / Los Angeles - Panamint Springs (Death Valley). It has been almost 3 years since my last time camping in Alabama Hills, and that was in the plans for the second day, but I treated myself to a Death Valley run on the first day. Death Valley has been a legendary destination for motorcycle runs since the late 70s, and after Troy “Chicomoto” Critchlow (RIP) brought it back in the 2000s, and made it really popular in the Chopper scene for many years, it was definitely on my bucket list as well. The proximity to Alabama Hills made it a really perfect occasion to finally make it happen. The first day of 3 on the road were 252 miles from Los Angeles, crossing through the Mojave desert and jamming on the scenic Hwy 395, before taking a detour to Death Valley. I arrived at Panamint Springs campground just before sunset. What perfect timing to make it even more epic!!!. (00:18:09) Day 2 / Panamint Springs (Death Valley) - Alabama Hills (Lone Pine). Day 2 was a pretty easy one in the saddle from Death Valley to Alabama Hills, with 98 miles (and 30 of them because I drove to Independence, CA to see more views of the snowy Eastern Sierra). The day started with a sick morning rip leaving Death Valley, followed by good luck finding a great place to camp in the Alabama Hills. After setting up camp, I enjoyed myself wondering around the rocks and called it a day. (00:37:06) Day 3 / Alabama Hills (Lone Pine) - Los Angeles. On Day 3 it was time to head back home, but first I enjoyed a relaxing morning watching the sunrise while drinking coffee before packing up. Coming back home doesn’t mean the fun stops, so in between gas station stops to refuel and get hydrated, I also stopped at a couple of places along the way to poke around. The highlight of the day was a fully loaded freight train blasting his horn, answering my request from the road driving in opposite direction, as you can watch on this video. After driving through the twisted route of Los Angeles National Forest and some lane splitting, I made it home safely with 214 miles in the saddle for the day. Thanks for watching.
