Amelita Galli-Curci - Lucia di Lammermoor : Mad Scene

Galli-Curci sings the Mad Scene from Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor. This performance consists of two recordings made over five and one half years apart; Galli-Curci recorded many takes, particularly of part 2, before satisfactory records were obtained. Rejected attempts to record part 1 were made at her very first recording session on October 30, 1916. Victor adopted electrical (or "Orthophonic") recording in the spring of 1925, and Galli-Curci attempted to re-record the entire scene utilizing the new process in 1926, but those records were never approved for release. Victor recordings, February 1, 1917 and September 21, 1922.
