SC Paderborn remains winless for the fourth consecutive match and missed the chance to temporarily move into second place in the 2. Bundesliga. Against Karlsruher SC, the East Westphalians were left frustrated with a draw and their own poor finishing. Paderborn led for much of the game but failed to capitalize on their opportunities, allowing Karlsruhe back into the match. KSC turned the game around within four minutes (75th and 79th minutes), but couldn't hold onto their lead. Paderborn's Sebastian Klaas scored to make it 2-2 (1-0), a result the club is unlikely to be satisfied with in their promotion bid. Paderborn led for a long period but failed to convert their chances, allowing Karlsruhe back into the game. After a deflected shot from Castaneda, the ball fell to Bilbija's feet. His initial attempt was saved, but KSC goalkeeper Bernat had no chance with the rebound. After taking the lead, Paderborn sat back further and further, showing no signs of extending their advantage. Instead, the visitors from Karlsruhe gradually worked their way into the game. Wanitzek and Ben Farhat both had chances to equalize (26th, 29th minute), but both failed to convert. Shortly before the halftime whistle, Paderborn resumed their attacking efforts. Baur, however, only hit the post (37th minute). In the second half, Paderborn initially pressed harder for a second goal, but Curda's shot from about seven meters was brilliantly saved by Bernat in the KSC goal (63rd minute). A short time later, it was Curda again who tried to play the ball into the center from just before the byline. Karlsruhe's Rapp, however, cleared for a corner, and Paderborn maintained their narrow lead. Until the visitors punished Paderborn's poor finishing. After a beautiful pass from Förster, Fabian Schleusener received the ball just outside the penalty area and flicked it past SCP goalkeeper Seimen with the outside of his boot – the equalizer (75th minute). Four minutes later, another setback for the hosts. During the build-up play, Baur made an inaccurate pass, inviting the visitors to counter-attack. Herold didn't hesitate, passing the ball into the center to Fukuda, who fired home from about 17 meters to give Karlsruhe the lead. Paderborn were under pressure, facing a potential setback in their bid for a third Bundesliga promotion. Sebastian Klaas managed to limit the damage by equalizing in the 85th minute. However, the hoped-for victory in their final home game of the season eluded them. With the draw, Paderborn temporarily moved into the relegation playoff spot, which Hannover reclaimed on Saturday with their draw in Bochum. Elversberg, currently second in the table, can distance themselves from their rivals with a win against Düsseldorf, meaning direct promotion would then only be theoretically out of reach for the Saarlanders.
