Slashers Are Not Lesser Horror

Are slashers really “low rent horror,” or have horror fans gotten way too comfortable looking down on one of the genre’s most important subgenres? After a comment on my Halloween video called slashers “low rent horror,” I couldn’t stop thinking about the way some horror fans talk about movies like Halloween, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream, and other slasher classics. This video is not about attacking one comment or one person. It’s about the weird horror elitism that treats slashers like lesser horror, when some of the most iconic, influential, and emotionally resonant horror movies ever made came from this exact space. From Michael Myers and Laurie Strode to Ghostface, Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, and the final girl legacy, slashers helped shape horror as we know it. They are not just cheap kills, masks, and body counts. They are trauma, survival, atmosphere, mythology, suspense, and cultural memory. So let’s talk about why slashers deserve more respect. #Halloween #MichaelMyers #SlasherMovies #HorrorMovies #Scream #FridayThe13th #ANightmareOnElmStreet #HorrorCommunity
