In this video, we discuss fertilizers with high potassium content. Previously, we discussed ZK and KCl fertilizers. This time, we will discuss KNO3 fertilizer. What is KNO3 fertilizer, what is its content, and what are its benefits for plants? One well-known compound fertilizer widely available on the market is KNO3, or Potassium Nitrate. Potassium Nitrate fertilizer is a compound fertilizer, a combination of two single fertilizers: one containing nitrogen (in the form of nitrate) and potassium in the form of K2O (potassium oxide). Potassium Nitrate, or KNO3, is an alternative fertilizer that can be used for crops that are sensitive to chloride toxicity, such as potatoes, carrots, and tobacco. Therefore, KNO3 fertilizer is safer for various types of plants than KCl fertilizer. There are two types of KNO3 fertilizer on the market: red KNO3 fertilizer and white KNO3 fertilizer. Red KNO3 fertilizer is typically used during the vegetative phase of plants because it contains 15% nitrogen (N), 14% potassium (K), 18% sodium (Na), and 0.05% boron (Bo). This content helps stimulate vegetative growth and can accelerate or stimulate flower and fruit growth. Meanwhile, white KNO3 fertilizer is suitable for use during the generative phase of plants due to its relatively high potassium content. White KNO3 fertilizer contains 46% potassium and 13% nitrogen. This fertilizer is used during the generative phase because it can prevent flower and fruit drop, increase plant resistance to disease and environmental stress, and enhance aroma and flavor. However, white KNO3 can still be used during the vegetative phase by applying a much smaller dose, approximately 1/3 to 1/2 the recommended dose. Benefits of KNO3 Fertilizer Since we've already discussed red and white KNO3 fertilizers, we'll now discuss the benefits of KNO3 fertilizers based on their types. The first is red KNO3. Red KNO3 has several benefits, including: 1. Stimulates vegetative and leaf growth. 2. Helps accelerate flower and fruit growth. 3. Increases crop production. 4. Improves the quality of fruit, seeds, and especially tubers. 5. Prevents tuber rot. 6. Increases the weight of fruit, seeds, and tubers. 7. Improves flavor and aroma. 8. The boron content in red KNO3 can improve carbohydrate transport within plants. 9. Sodium (Na) plays a role in water absorption by plant roots, making plants more drought-resistant. 10. Improves harvests for longer. Next, we'll discuss the benefits of white KNO3 fertilizer. Some of them are: 1. Prevents flower and fruit drop. 2. Makes trees more drought-resistant. 3. Stimulates root growth and development. 4. Stimulates vegetative growth. 5. The number of tillers will increase. 6. The presence of nitrogen can also increase the protein percentage and even the quantity of rice grains. How to Apply KNO3 Fertilizer KNO3 fertilizer is water-soluble, so it can be applied by spraying or pouring. Applying KNO3 by spraying on the leaves will produce faster absorption and benefits than applying it through the roots. This is especially true if the application is correct (at the right time, method, and dosage). Failure to do so, for example, can put the plants at risk of burns. The recommended dosage for pouring is around 2-5 grams per liter (or as recommended), or 400 grams per 200-liter drum. If 250 ml per plant is used, then a 200-liter drum can cover 800 plants. In addition to spraying and pouring, KNO3 fertilizer can also be sprinkled (in prill/granular form). It's applied during soil cultivation as a base fertilizer, placed at the bottom/center of the bed and then covered with soil. It can also be applied in holes around the planting hole, by digging a special hole 10-15 cm from the planting hole, with a dose of 5-10 grams per hole.
