On the 200th anniversary of the Bolivian Police, its commander general, Mirko Sokol, did something rarely heard: acknowledge past mistakes. “There were dark years in our history, practices that eroded the trust of the Bolivian people,” he said this Friday at the main ceremony. He admitted that “some betrayed the profound meaning of this uniform” and that the institutional doctrine was weakened.
