Double Decker Living Root Bridge - Meghalaya’s Living Wonder!
The Double decker Living root Bridge is the world’s only double-tiered root bridge, designed to withstand monsoon floods, with roots trained over decades to form strong, intertwined layers that support up to 50 people. This living structure can last 500+ years. The Double Decker Living Root Bridge is one of the most extraordinary natural and cultural wonders in Meghalaya. It’s famed for being a bridge grown from living tree roots - a remarkable example of indigenous bio-engineering by the local Khasi tribal communities. The double-decker root bridge is located near Nongriat Village in the Cherrapunji (Sohra) area (East Khasi Hills). The trek begins from Tyrna Village, a short drive from Cherrapunji, and leads down steep steps into the forest to reach the bridge. #meghalaya #travel #adventure #bikeride #india
