Black Widows Over Donner Pass | Circa 1958 - 1964
The Southern Pacific Railroad directly after the end of steam is a period in time that does not get as much coverage as a lot of other timeframes on the railroad, and this video is to help with ending that drought. Before the onslaught of scarlet and grey to the railroad, freights were pulled by EMD units in the beautiful Black Widow paint scheme, and ALCO passenger diesels still handled the mountain assignments in Daylight colors. These sequences show action on Donner Pass between Roseville and Norden from 1958 - 1964, and come from the 8mm movie cameras of 3 different railfans. Slides help set the scene at the beginning, and were provided by Scott Inman. Enjoy 567 prime movers in full voice, and the sounds of diesel horns echoing off the mountains in this look at Black Widows over Donner!
