Day 47 Springfield MO to Claremore OK via Wilson’s Creek Battlefield Historical Site
I started the day at Wilson’s Creek Battlefield Historical Site. After touring the interpretive center and taking the battlefield driving tour, I followed Route 66, virtually all the way to Claremore, Oklahoma. Wilson’s Creek was the 2nd big battle of the war (Manassas being the first big battle). Per the information at the site, although the Union faced superior numbers and suffered heavy losses, they held off the Confederates enough that the rebels weren’t able to really ever make inroads into Missouri.
