Gion Shinbashi is Kyoto's most famous geisha district, located around Shijo Avenue. Shimbashi street is from Kamo river in the west to Yasaka shrine in the east. It is also parallel to Shirakawa river and crossed. It is filled with restaurants and ochaya (teahouses), where geiko (Kyoto dialect for geisha) and maiko (geiko apprentices) entertain.
