Today I had exclusive access to the Spix's Macaw Conservation Center at the São Paulo Zoo, home to one of the rarest and most emblematic birds on the planet: the Spix's macaw, *Cyanopsitta spixii*, a species currently extinct in the wild. In this video, we learn about the behind-the-scenes work of conservation, management, and reproduction carried out by the zoo team, as well as a summary of the species' history, from its extinction in the wild to recent reintroduction projects in the Caatinga, the northeastern hinterland of Brazil.
