Your Name (Kimi no Na wa) is a 2016 Japanese animated film directed by Makoto Shinkai. The story follows Mitsuha, a teenage girl living in a quiet rural town, and Taki, a high school boy in Tokyo. One day, they mysteriously begin switching bodies while they sleep. At first, they think it's just strange dreams, but they soon realize it's real. They leave messages for each other, helping each other navigate their different lives, and gradually form a deep emotional bond despite never meeting. Then the body-swapping suddenly stops. When Taki tries to find Mitsuha, he discovers a shocking truth: they are separated not just by distance, but by time. Mitsuha's town was destroyed by a comet several years earlier. Determined to change fate, Taki searches for a way to reach her and prevent the disaster. The film explores themes of love, destiny, memory, time, and human connection. Even after their memories of each other begin to fade, they continue feeling that someone important is missing from their lives. In the final scene, years later, Taki and Mitsuha pass each other on separate trains in Tokyo.
