Hometown Arcade retro arcade tour (Bloomfield NJ), new May 2025 full 4K walkthrough

We're back in Bloomfield, New Jersey, following up on Hometown Arcade! This freeplay retro arcade is open seven days a week with a flat $20 entry fee for unlimited gaming. We first visited this location a few days before its grand opening back in October of last year, when its owner Aash was kind enough to allow us a sneak peek behind the curtain. Now, with over six months of them being open to the public, let's check back in and see how the place has evolved! There's been some rotation of the games, with a few of the less popular titles being retired and some new ones taking their place. Newly added into the mix are classics like Tetris, Arkanoid, the 4-player version of X-Men, Moon Patrol, Tapper, and Terminator 2 Judgment Day. A trio of Sega classics have also been put out on the floor! Right near the main entrance, you'll find the original House of the Dead in its deluxe cabinet model. Then towards the back, there's a Virtua Fighter machine right next to a sitdown Crazy Taxi. Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah! I can hear The Offspring already. One of the nicer surprises is the small but growing rhythm game section in the back corner near the seating area! There's a vintage Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA cabinet in excellent condition, as well as an online-connected Sound Voltex Exceed Gear machine, so both your feet and hands can get a workout. And the console gaming room has doubled its original amount of TVs, as well as adding a Nintendo Switch as well as classic Nintendo games from the 80's and 90's. Oh, is the Switch in use? There's a second one in the back. And from what I understand, they've also been having special events on a regular basis, including fighting game tournaments and a Wii Bowling tourney as well! On the pinball side of things, the original five machines are all still there and the four Sterns have since been connected to Insider, plus they have since been joined by Spooky's Scooby-Doo, as well as the brand new Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant's Eye. They've been running biweekly pinball tournaments on Wednesday nights over here, and after speaking with the owner, yours truly will be running a special Friday night tournament next Friday, June 6th 2025, for the Dungeons & Dragons launch party. Last but not least, we'd be remiss if we didn't mention the fact that due to Barcade's withdrawal from the Jersey market, Hometown Arcade is currently the ONLY retro arcade that has an on-site bar available. There's a selection of beer on tap, as well as a rotating mix of independent craft beers and classic North American favorites available in cans. The bar opens every day at 4 PM, and happy hour is from 4-7 Monday through Friday. Keep in mind, while this does mean that they are no longer a BYOB establishment, they are still family friendly and welcome customers of all ages; they just simply request that a guardian aged 21+ accompanies all underage patrons while the bar is open for business. Overall, I'm very impressed by the changes and improvements made to Hometown Arcade since my initial visit. This is rapidly turning into one of my favorite places to hang out.
