*Patti Dian Darshan* Shri Jagannath is a very important and emotional tradition in the culture. What is "Patti Dian"? After bathing with 108 pots of fragrant water during the "Snan Yatra" on the day of Jyeshtha Purnima, Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra suffer from fever. They then stay in the "Anasar Ghar" (secret chamber or sick room) for 15 days. During this Anasar period, the original idols are not visible on the Ratnavedi. To fill the void left by the Lord and provide darshan to devotees, representative idols (pictures) of the Lord are installed in the form of traditional "Patachitra" (scroll paintings). These beautiful Patachitras are called "Patti Dian." In what form does the Lord give darshan? During Anasar, the following forms of Lord Vishnu's incarnations are worshipped and seen through paintings in the Srimandir: 1. Lord Jagannath — worshipped as Lord Narayana (Ananta Narayana). 2. Lord Balabhadra — worshipped as Lord Vasudeva (Ananta Vasudeva). 3. Goddess Subhadra — worshipped as Mother Bhuvaneshwari. 4. Lord Sudarshan — worshipped as Lord Narasimha. These paintings are prepared with utmost devotion and precision by the traditional 'Chitrakar Sevaks' of Puri before Anasar. Importance and Timing of Darshan *Time:* From the day after Snan Purnima (Ashadha Krishna Pratipada) until Netrotsav and Navayuvana Darshan (approximately 15 days), devotees can only see 'Patti Diam' in the Srimandir. *Method of Worship:* During these 15 days, while the ailing Lord Mahaprabhu's secret rituals (medicinal application, decoction, etc.) are being performed inside the Anasar Ghar, all the daily rituals, aarti, and food offerings are offered to 'Patti Diam' outside. Connection to Alarnath Darshan It is believed that during Anasar, along with seeing 'Patti Diam' in the Puri Srimandir, seeing *Shri Alarnath (Chaturbhuj Vishnu)* at Brahmagiri bestows the same merits as seeing Shri Jagannath.
