I've asked myself that question too. And today, in this episode of Flowing with Chaos, I had the privilege of sharing a deep, honest, and transformative conversation with Xavier Guix, psychologist, speaker, and author of more than 14 books, including his most recent work: The Challenge of Letting Go of the Past. What began as a question about regret became a journey into the most intimate parts of our psychology: guilt, forgiveness, the prisons of the past, identity, forbidden emotions, and the urgent need to reconnect with who we truly are. Xavier tells us about Bronnie Ware, a palliative care worker who for years collected the last words of people at the end of their lives. The most common regret wasn't having failed, but not having allowed themselves to be themselves. Not having lived their own lives. Having lived for others, for duty, for what others would say. That hurts. And you don't have to wait until the end to realize it. Xavier makes a distinction that I found key: regret lives in the "what if…," in the looped thinking that resolves nothing. Remorse, on the other hand, comes from what did happen and teaches us. We learn from remorse. From regret, we only punish ourselves. We talked at length about forgiveness. Not the easy forgiveness that's just lip service, but real forgiveness: the kind that doesn't depend on the other person changing, that doesn't demand reconciliation, but that frees you from the burden you carry. As Xavier says, forgiving doesn't always mean forgetting. Sometimes, all we can do is let it go. Xavier identifies attitudes that keep us trapped: resentment, bitterness, victimhood, unresolved grief, nostalgia. But he also gives us concrete tools: the 7 keys to resolving the past, starting with accepting what was, taking responsibility for what depends on us, and working on our identity from the present. One of the moments that resonated most with me was when Xavier spoke about how memory constructs our identity, but that identity doesn't have to be a cage. We are more than what we remember. We can rewrite the story. We can choose what we pay attention to. This conversation is for you if you've ever felt like you're carrying more than your fair share. If you've lost yourself in the role of taking care of everyone but yourself. If the past weighs you down more than the present supports you. If you're looking to let go, without denying. To move forward, without forgetting. 💬 Did you recognize yourself in anything we talked about today? 🔔 Subscribe and turn on notifications so you don't miss any episodes of Flowing with Chaos. 📲 Follow me on Instagram and social media for more content on psychology, emotional well-being, and personal growth. 🎙️ DIANA HIDALGO Executive and Team Coach | Creator of Flowing with Chaos https://www.dianahidalgocoach.com   / dianahidalgocoach   Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5j40y3E...
