Nazi criminal Semyon Serafimovich, who brutally exterminated the inhabitants of the Belarusian town of Mir and surrounding villages during World War II, hid for nearly half a century in the quiet town of Banstead, a suburb of London. In the 1990s, people discovered him and even forced the British court to initiate a preliminary trial. But despite a substantial body of evidence, the high-profile trial in England ended in failure. Eighty years after the crimes, a legal assessment has been given: on March 28, the Supreme Court of Belarus found the Nazi collaborator guilty of genocide against the Belarusian people. As part of the leadership of auxiliary police units, Serafimovich killed at least 4,144 people, including 626 children, many of whom were clearly underage. He acted with particular cruelty: people were executed by shooting with firearms, burning alive, hanging, and torture. The executioner has been convicted in Belarus! On March 28, 2025, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus found Serafimovich S.S. guilty of genocide—actions committed with the intention of the systematic destruction of the entire Belarusian people as a national and ethnic group, defined on the basis of territorial, ideological, and other arbitrary criteria, by killing members of such a group and deliberately creating living conditions calculated to bring about the complete physical destruction of such a group—that is, committing a crime under Article 127 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.
