Joe wanted to experience life in Iraq after several trips there - Portraits by The Return - #10

Portrait #10 - Joe is a reporter who was born and raised in the United States to an Assyrian mother and an American father. For a long time, he was distant from his community and his homeland, until he gradually reconnected with his roots and took his first trip with Gishru in 2019. Since then, he has returned every year, and this time he decided to take it a step further by settling in Ankawa, at least temporarily. He shares with us his experience on the ground, which differs from his earlier trips, what he has learned, the fears and challenges he has faced, as well as a sense of simplicity and humanity he has found here. ➖➖ The Return launches its series of video portraits! Because each returnee has their own story, their own cultural background and their own ambitions, it’s important to understand each person’s journey and perhaps draw inspiration from them to build the future of our communities. This series of portraits was made possible thanks to the financial support of l'Oeuvre d'Orient.
