Il Cammino di San Olav

Follow me on this intense hike through the wilderness! The Swedish Way of St. Olav is the northernmost pilgrimage route in the world. It stretches for 600 km from east to west of the Scandinavian Peninsula, from the town of Sundsvall in Sweden to the city of Trondheim in Norway. An alternative to the usual Camino de Santiago de Compostela, for those who need to reconnect with nature and themselves. So, let's arm ourselves with a good tent, a camp stove, and two strong feet to embark on an unforgettable adventure through the endless Swedish forests and the rugged Norwegian rocks. Let's follow in the footsteps of King Olav on this journey rich in history and worthy of the finest Viking sagas. The route precisely retraces the journey of the king and saint of Norway in his attempt to regain his throne in Nidaros (Trondheim). After two years of exile, King Olaf II Haraldsson landed in the port of Selånger with a large army. He traveled across Sweden and then Norway to the farm of Sticklestad, where he lost his life in a bloody battle. But his fame grew enormously when he was found buried near the coast of Nidaros, with no signs of aging and with his hair and nails fully grown. The idea of miracles occurring in the springs where he had drunk began to spread, and healings multiplied. A true veneration of Saint Olav spread, and within a few years a cathedral was built to house his remains and the many pilgrims who visited him. To this day, every July 29th, the saint is celebrated in the Trondheim Cathedral. Follow me on Instagram:   / un_fotografo_in_cammino   Follow me on Facebook:   / unfotografoincammino
