The Identity Crisis Of Realising Your Whole Personality Was a Coping Mechanism.

For years I thought I knew exactly who I was. Driven, independent, productive, the one who always had it together. Then I was diagnosed with AuDHD, and realised so much of what I thought was my personality was actually survival. People pleasing, perfectionism, overachieving, never sitting still, always being the strong one, masking, living in a constant state of fight or flight. So, who are you when those coping mechanisms start to fall away? In this episode, I’m talking about the identity crisis that can come after a late ADHD or autism diagnosis, why it feels so unsettling, how to separate your true personality from your coping mechanisms, and how to start figuring out who you really are underneath it all. If you’ve ever found yourself wondering, “Was any of that actually me?”, this episode is for you. Let me know in the comments what changed the most for you after your diagnosis, I’d love to hear your experience.
