How to start sparring without protective gear

Learn how to start sparring without any protective gear, except for your sword of course! If you are like me, and come the direction of sparring where armour is used for protection, it is necessary to put that gear to one side, and start from the scratch. This means, your first priority will be protecting your own safety. No more reckless suicide attacks, or giving a leg for a head hit, just to score a point. Learning how to practice the medieval way will teach you weapon control and proper attitude. This kind of training is dangerous, so when you start, do it in a controlled manner. I find that my focus is shaper, when practicing this way. Of course, if you have protective gear, you can put that on occasionally, and go fast. But try to maintain the attitude and focus, just like without protecive gear. --- Learn how to fight with a military arming sword, medieval style. The techniques presented here are from Cassani's military manual, which describes a very practical and strong way of using the arming sword. The manual is from 1603, but the techniques are very old. Similar techniques can be found in for example the oldest sword fighting manuscript we have, the I.33. What sets Cassani apart is that he describes a sword style which is for military use, and different from the civilian techniques of the time. Cuts are preferred, thrusting is absent. The use of double swords, and a sword with shield, is also included. As usual, I have tested the style in sparring, and it really works well. I currently fight with this style most of the time. But don't take my word for it, try it yourself!
