SINTOMA DE GRAVIDEZ: ENJOO
If there's one very well-known pregnancy symptom, it's nausea! It can range from mild to intense and usually happens in the morning, although it can occur at any time of day. There are two things you might not know: it's not the first symptom of pregnancy. How so? That's right… it happens from the 6th week of gestation onwards. The second thing is that pregnancy nausea can lead to a complication that can be serious. Not every woman experiences it, okay?! We usually say that about half of women experience nausea. And those who don't have nausea experience a significant increase in appetite or a pronounced aversion to certain foods. Some women also have a heightened sense of smell and taste. First of all… you find out you're pregnant. Or how do you think women perceived the signs of pregnancy before pregnancy tests and technology existed? The period was late and the nausea arrived… that was it. They quickly connected the dots and suspected pregnancy. But one of the main causes of nausea is the change in hormone levels, especially hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which occurs from implantation onwards, and estrogen, which can affect the part of the brain responsible for vomiting. And speaking of the brain… emotional factors such as stress can also contribute to pregnancy nausea. And do you know the best news of the day? It's a temporary symptom that, in most cases, decreases or disappears as the pregnancy progresses. In some cases, a more complicated form of nausea can occur, which is different and more serious than common morning sickness: hyperemesis gravidarum. It is a condition characterized by severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, which can lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. Our bodies contain electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. They play a very important role in various bodily functions, such as regulating heart rate, muscle function, and maintaining fluid balance. In cases of hyperemesis gravidarum, as the name suggests, the symptoms are pronounced. Diagnosis is based on the following signs and symptoms: • Very frequent vomiting; • Intense nausea; • Significant weight loss; • Weakness; • Dizziness; • Cramps; • Confusion; • Irregular heart rhythm This condition needs to be diagnosed and treated as early as possible because it can lead to dehydration, malnutrition, and impaired fetal growth. Tests that aid in diagnosis include physical examination, urine tests, and blood tests. Treatment involves intravenous fluid replacement, medication to alleviate nausea, and dietary modifications. Tips to relieve nausea: • Small, frequent meals - divide your meals into smaller portions, eat every 2 hours. Avoid having an empty stomach. • Avoid foods that cause nausea - milk and dairy products tend to ferment in the stomach; • Stay hydrated - drinking small portions of very cold liquids with a few drops of lemon can also help keep you hydrated and avoid complications; • Respect your body and rest - stress and fatigue can worsen nausea; • Ginger, in the form of tea or supplements, is known for its antiemetic properties and can help relieve nausea; • Acupuncture. And of all the information I've shared today, the one you absolutely must remember is that it's essential to seek medical help if nausea is persistent and intense.
