Eduardo Ruiz-Healy and his colleagues discussed the close presidential election in Colombia, where the far-right candidate known as "El Tigre" (The Tiger) won by a narrow margin over the incumbent, Iván Cepeda. Based on this result, they debated whether Latin America is experiencing a shift to the right and whether Mexico might follow suit. Ruiz-Healy argued that, unlike countries such as Colombia, Argentina, or Chile, Mexico lacks a strong tradition of right-wing parties and that the current opposition lacks identity, structure, and competitive leadership.
