Il a opéré une prostate à 1 000 km de distance, une première en Afrique | Pr Adil Ouzzane

It's the most common cancer in men. And the one that's never talked about. In Morocco, more than one in two men over 50 suffers from prostate disease. Yet, the majority of men never seek medical help. Out of fear, out of taboo, or because they've been led to believe it's simply a sign of aging. The result: cancers diagnosed too late, when they could have been caught early. In this new episode of "Without a Prescription," I'm joined by Professor Adil Ouzzane, a urological surgeon trained in Lille, Paris, and New York, and the first doctor in Africa to perform robot-assisted telesurgery, a prostate operation carried out between Casablanca and Laâyoune, more than 1,000 km apart. In this episode, Professor Ouzzane demystifies everything surrounding the prostate: the real difference between benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer, what a high PSA level really means, why a digital rectal exam remains essential despite advances in imaging, and how multiparametric MRI has prevented thousands of unnecessary biopsies. He also discusses modern treatment options, such as active surveillance, laser therapy, and robot-assisted prostatectomy, and explains how today's surgery has drastically reduced the risks of incontinence and impotence that frightened an entire generation. He also mentions the promise of telesurgery for patients in remote regions of the Kingdom. 00:00 Introduction and presentation of Professor Adil Ouzzane 01:21 What is the prostate?
