Shakin Stevens | Ancestry and the making of 'Echoes of our Time' | Ancestry
He was the UK's biggest-selling singles artist of the 1980s. Now, Shakin' Stevens is back with a new sound and a new album motivated by his family history research. Brad Argent spoke to Shaky about the album, and the stories it tells. Platinum-selling Welsh rock and roll singer, Shakin' Stevens (Michael Barratt) was born in Ely, Cardiff and was the youngest of 13 children. Despite coming from a large family, Shaky knew little about his ancestors and their stories. Curious to find out more, he began researching his family tree with Ancestry and through AncestryDNA, was able to solve some long-speculated family mysteries. His new album, 'Echoes of our Time' stems from the stories and characters Shaky found in his past. The album features 10 tracks and draws inspiration from the influential and even unknown family members in Shaky's family tree.
