Depeche Mode BUT NOT TONIGHT (Dub Mix) (by MrDavid)

As some of you probably already know, I grew up in the 1980's in Southern California blessed with KROQ radio forming my tastes and opinions about music- mostly new wave and what most American stations would call "alt rock". Depeche Mode were first and foremost in nearly all of " The Roq's" mid-to-late 80s broadcasts, and the station was quite influential in some of the bigger moments in Depeche Mode's early history. Including the Concert For The Masses at the Pasanda Rose Bowl that became the decade-defining concert film "101" and the infamous Warehouse 1990 incident where a simple meet & greet spilled over into chaos in the streets! I only mention the radio station because they were the "in and out" of my Depeche Mode fandom; once I moved away from L.A., I had little chance to preview their new material and barely bought any of their records or singles following the "Violator" era. This song, "But Not Tonight" was originally a B-side track to the single "Stripped". It was the bright shiny pop vibe that drove home how incredibly DARK the rest of the material was on the album "Black Celebration" in contrast. It was only included as a bonus cut in the USA (and on the CD versions in the UK) on that album and has always been treated like an afterthought. Later that year, "But Not Tonight" was remixed for inclusion in the film "Modern Girls" and was released as a 7" and 12" single exclusively in America. The band openly disliked the song, and it remains missing from most (maybe all?) of their subsequent compilations. It was even removed from the running order of the remastered version of "Black Celebration" worldwide! It never even had a concert performance until 2013- when a slow, acoustic, mournful version was performed by Martin instead of Dave! I wanted to show this song a little love after all this time, so I created a dub version based on the American 12" mix- edited and manipulated in a style I felt would have fit properly alongside the other tracks that release.
