What they often miss is the difference between theoretically having a copyright and having the certificate of registration they need to enforce it. A copyright registration certificate can support platform takedowns, infringement claims, and statutory damages: $750 to $30,000 per infringement, or up to $150,000 if the infringement was willful. Without timely registration, recovery may be limited to provable losses or profits. For many authors, that's the hardest number to prove.
