Jeep JL Tailgate Radio Antenna Mount - Midland MXTA26 - GMRS My GMRS radio has been great. I use a Midland MXT275 15W radio hardwired and a 3db ghost antenna. In small groups, even in the woods, I have good reception, but could use a little more range especially when talking to the tailgunntr vehicle from the lead position of the group. That's where the 6db antenna comes in. Arguably my 3db cowl mounted antenna was being blocked to a degree by the Jeep's hood. A 6db antenna mounted a little higher up seems like a good idea and it seems to be living up to my expectations. I could have just screwed the new antenna to the cowl mount, but I didn't want to add anything up front that would catch limbs on the trails. The antenna does have a spring base which is nice. In the rear location it does move on the base a bit, but even so it does not contact the rear window or top. This is a simple job with no drilling or permanent alterations required.
