From people who make a living catching snakes that possess deadly venom capable of taking lives, to those who raise dangerous cobras. It is said that they have maintained their families' livelihoods by catching snakes for generations! We follow the scene of their life-threatening work as they venture into the mountains, risking danger for the sake of their families. ■ Snake Course Meals: A Variety of Dishes from Soups to Grilled Snakes In the snake village, there are restaurants specializing in snake cuisine of various sizes. They are said to be popular not only with locals but also with foreigners. Here, once you decide on the type of snake and cooking method you want, you can enjoy a variety of snake-based dishes in a course-style format. The menu is incredibly diverse, ranging from basic stir-fries and stews to Vietnamese spring rolls and charcoal-grilled snake dishes. In particular, when preparing snake dishes, it is crucial to debone the snake carefully and meticulously, as failure to do so could cause injuries to customers while eating. Since snakes are a dangerous ingredient, it is said that only those who have received professional training are allowed to work here, including both the snake catchers and the chefs. We meet the people who create these special snake dishes that are hard to find elsewhere. ■ A Perilous Snake Farm: From Cobra Hatching to Shipment In Vietnam, there are not only snake farms that raise snakes found in the wild but also farms that artificially hatch and raise them for sale. One such snake farm in Hanoi raises a total of approximately 2,000 snakes. The process of raising them is extremely dangerous. They must clean the inside of the enclosure where potent cobras are coiled, and even manually shed the snakes' skin during molting season. Therefore, if they do not work with full concentration, they risk being bitten. It is said that once bitten, the venom spreads helplessly and can instantly engulf the entire body. Despite the dangerous and arduous nature of the work, these fish farm workers say they are grateful for this job because it has allowed them to put their children through college, and they intend to protect it to the very end.
